Urgent Appeal

by | Mar 21, 2017

Hi Fellow Members,

No one likes taking home a salmon or sewin more than I do, but I would urge you to consider the following:

With the proposed NRW rules on the horizon, should we as a club be considering using barb less or circle hooks?

Should we be encouraging each other to return salmon and sewin caught and only keeping one each for the table each season?

We should all be using one worm before the 16th June and, I’m sorry, be telling anyone you see using more that one worm to clean up their act! We need to do something because the worst thing that could happen and I’m sorry to say it will happen, is our river will become catch and release for salmon and sewin and a ban on bait fishing.

Please ladies and gentlemen, do all you that you can to preserve our fish stocks.

Thank You,

Paul Arengo Williams

Angling Trust letter to Lesley Griffiths AM

As you know, the Angling Trust is the representative body for all disciplines of angling with thousands of individual members and members of affiliated clubs in Wales. It is united in a collaborative relationship with Fish Legal, a separate membership association that uses the law to protect fish stocks and the rights of its members throughout the UK. Freshwater angling is one of the Wales’s most popular pastimes and also makes an important contribution to the economy, generating at least £150 million in revenue, attracting visitors from throughout the world and supporting countless jobs either directly or indirectly. Angling also has numerous social benefits for individuals and communities and for many local anglers it is their only leisure activity. A large proportion of this angling is for game fish: salmon, sea trout, trout and grayling.
